The Last Station

Greetings, and thank you for being my companion on this train called life.

I have traveled on this train for more than seven decades, and now I have arrived at what feels like the last station. As I stepped onto the platform, I noticed the train had four long compartments, each with a banner along its side. They were labeled Living, Learning, Sharing, and Venturing. Curious, I entered the first compartment—Living. It seemed endless. As I walked through it, I saw people who were sad, depressed, angry, very happy, and excited. I saw memories of my own life—what I had done, how I had lived, and the people I had interacted with—unfolding as I moved forward. I then entered the next compartment, Learning. It felt similar, yet different. Here, I saw what I had learned over the years, how those lessons had shaped me, and how interactions with others had helped me grow. The remaining compartments—Sharing and Venturing—revealed much the same: events, people, experiences, risks taken, ideas explored, and lessons shared. After walking through all four, I stepped out of the final compartment. At that moment, the purpose of the train called life became clear to me. This website is a reflection of my journey through those four compartments. It is not meant for the public. I share it only with family, friends, and those like you who are here by invitation. If my life can motivate you in some small way, or help you see that life ultimately brings good things, then this website has served its purpose. At times, life may appear difficult—not because the universe gives us a bad life, but because it is preparing us for better things ahead. In the end, it is always a good thing. I hope you enjoy my thoughts—my life, my journey on this train.

Philosophically, I am still discovering and have not found all the answers. Physically and professionally, my name is Suresh Agrawal. I was born in 1948 and am the youngest of ten siblings.

I am a chemical engineer by training, a graduate of the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai (1972). I immigrated to the United States in 1973 and earned my Master’s and Ph.D. from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago in 1975 and 1980.

I married the love of my life, Meena Agrawal, in February 1977. She passed away in 2016. I have two daughters and two granddaughters.

By nature, I am a technocrat, always chasing that “Eureka” moment. After graduating, I worked with several international companies in the United States, which allowed me to travel extensively around the world, for both business and personal exploration. I still want to travel more.

I teach live and online courses in refining technology, publish technical papers, write books, and post blogs. What excites me most is solving problems, mentoring my associates, and achieving a sense of closure before I call it a day. I accomplish a great deal each day across all fronts, and I sleep six to eight hours each night without tossing and turning.

I live to learn, learn to solve, solve to serve, and serve until my last day.

Learning is lifelong, and curiosity keeps the mind alive. I am driven by solving meaningful problems with clarity, practicality, and purpose. Integrity, transparency, and fairness guide all my work and relationships.

I value people, teamwork, and respect for diverse perspectives. Mentorship and sharing knowledge are responsibilities I take seriously. I believe in accountability and ending each day with a sense of closure, knowing the work done was honest and valuable.

Above all, I value purpose over recognition and balance technical rigor with humanity, striving to leave things better than I found them.

I don’t declare my values; I live them to the core.
